Your liver and gall bladder play an important role in lipid metabolism. For example, bile salts are needed to help your body digest lipids. These salts are produced in your liver and secreted by your gall bladder into your small intestine to help you digest lipids. And if there is an excess of lipids in your blood, your liver will repackage them into lipid protein complexes, known as low density lipoproteins, or LDLs. These LDLs are then transported to your muscle, where they are used to produce energy or to fat tissue, where they are stored.
